Alexis Lafreniere, 19, was the first overall pick in the 2020 amateur draft. He may not have had the hoped-for first season offensively, hence his 21 points in 56 games, but he's all set for his second campaign with the Rangers.
Lafrenière has surely circled October 16 on his personal calendar, as it will mark his first career matchup against the Tricolore. Moreover, this duel will be played at the Bell Centre, probably in front of his friends and family, as he is a native of Saint-Eustache, about 30 minutes drive from Montreal.
If you were worried about "Laffy's" confidence level for the upcoming season, change your mind, he is ready. Last season was one that made the Quebecer grow tremendously on all levels, especially with his teammates.
"I learned a lot," the Quebecer noted about his first campaign in an interview with the Journal de Montréal at the end of the recent season. "I played with men every night. I felt more comfortable in the second half."
"I learned every day, I had the chance to play against very good players, he added. That will help me for next year. I think I'll be a much better player.
Lafrenière is unfortunately not a Montreal Canadiens player, but it will be very interesting to follow his progression with the Rangers in the years to come. He will probably never become a McDavid or Crosby like player, but he will become a good player.
