With a 25.5% chance of getting the very first pick and a guaranteed top-three pick, one wonders who Kent Hughes might be picking in his very first draft with the Habs.
Shane Wright's name is at the top of many experts' lists. The right-handed center has 94 points in 63 games this season in the Ontario Junior League. In addition, his team, the Kingston Frontenacs, just advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
However, as reported by Felix Forget of Danslescoulisses.com, not all experts see Wright being selected at the very top of the draft, and that is the case for Mathias Brunet.
During his daily appearance on 91.9 Sports, the La Presse reporter mentioned that if he were Kent Hughes, he would seriously consider trading the first pick to the Blue Jackets for the sixth and twelfth picks overall. By the way, on that subject, I suggest this article that appeared in La Presse last Friday.
Do you like this idea of possibly trading Shane Wright for the 6th and 12th overall picks in 2022?
To do so, the Montreal Canadiens obviously need to win the May 10 lottery!
He also stated that the Habs could possibly find a player just as good or better than Wright in the long run a few rows down and Kent Hughes could also add another good prospect with another high pick. Brunet went even further and estimated the Habs chances of drafting Shane Wright at about 40%.
Of course, for all these arguments to hold water, the Habs must win the lottery. We'll know the answer on May 10.
