During the last few games, especially against the Ottawa Sens, the young defenseman Arber Xhekaj was subjected to a lot of criticism and insults, obviously from his opponents and fans of the opposing teams.
His response to that is perfect.
Not only does it not throw Xhekaj off, not only does it not affect him at all, but he outright said that it makes him proud when he gets insulted like that. Wow! A real one, that one.
Insults that make Xhekaj proud of himself.
In a very interesting article, journalist Jean-Francois Chaumont notes that the young physical defender has "that rare attitude, that of a player who will never back down to reach his dream."
And his dream, it seems, is very close. Xhekaj is clearly doing everything he can right now to force his bosses to keep him in Montreal to start the season.
Plus, he has a unique talent, "he has a knack for quickly becoming the other team's enemy."
He makes his opponents think, he takes them out of their game and in some cases, he scares them outright.
Chaumont also reports on some extremely interesting comments from Xhekaj, who mentions what it feels like to get into a tiff with Sens captain Brady Tkachuk.
I think it's great, it's amazing. First of all, it means that a star player like Tkachuk knows my name if he takes the time to insult me. It's a sign that I'm doing my job. It doesn't bother me in the least." - Arber Xhekaj
We love it! Xhekaj, we love it!
