Despite the Canadiens' atrocious season, there are a few players who have managed to make their mark since the beginning of the year.

Forwards Nick Suzuki and Artturi Lehkonen showed great things and goaltender Jake Allen held the fort in front of the cage.

Another who has proven to everyone that he is a defenseman capable of playing in a top-4 in the NHL is back Ben Chiarot. In 31 games, he has already scored five goals, on track for his best goal in his career.

If his $3.5 million contract expires at the end of the season, Chiarot is one of the players with the most interest in the trading market.

The 30-year-old was ranked number one on TSN's list of the most interesting players on the market in early December.

As we approach the closing date of the transactions, several rumors of exchange involving the defenseman have been launched in recent days.

Passing through 91.9 Sports, former Habs coach Jacques Martin said a team that would be perfect for the Habs' number 8.

«Ben Chiarot would be a good addition for the Rangers.»

While the Rangers are currently at the top of the Metropolitan Division, it would not be surprising that General Manager Chris Drury will be a buyer in the coming weeks.

New York currently has just over $5 million below the salary cap. They would therefore have the means to accept Chiarot's contract for the rest of the campaign.

It must be said that the Rangers are a team that is still extremely young. So we will have to monitor the kind of approach the GM will have at the transaction deadline, but there is a good chance of seeing them in the Chiarot derby.
