Big announcement coming for Jonathan Drouin and the Montreal Canadiens
Now that the 2023 NHL Draft is officially behind us, we turn our attention to the Free agent market, and one of the names we are obviously watching is that of Jonathan Drouin.
Where will he sign? For how much? Is there still a chance of seeing him back in Montreal?
Journalist Renaud Lavoie, from TVA Sports, has done his research on the subject and here's what he had to say in the last few hours.
(Drouin) he too will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st!
- Renaud Lavoie
So, it's quite clear. Lavoie continues:
We should not expect him to sign a three-year contract, worth $5 million per year, because that won't happen. It's no surprise to anyone. I think in the case of Jonathan Drouin, they want to get a one-year deal, with a good team, at a lower salary that will allow him to turn the page on what he experienced with the Montreal Canadiens."
- Renaud Lavoie
The decision has therefore been made by the Habs not to sign him before the market opens. This says a lot about what's to come and it's likely to be confirmed in the next few hours.
Honestly, in any case, we sincerely wish him to find a place where he will be well and where he can play up to his great talent.
Drouin has amassed a grand total of 281 points, including 77 goals, in 485 games in the NHL so far. He gathered 29 points in 58 games last season.
