One of the names of the hour for the Montreal Canadiens is that of young defenseman Arber Xhekaj.
The hype surrounding Xhekaj is growing exponentially and it's starting to go far. Some observers are starting to say that the giant defenseman would have a chance to start the year with the CH, yes yes, as soon as this season.
It would be a huge surprise and a huge turnaround for Xhekaj, but some people really believe it.
By the way, we're not saying we agree, or disagree.
On the other hand, even if Xhekaj is a very interesting and promising young defenseman, two weeks ago, he was very far from being a candidate for a possible position on the Habs' blue line this season.
However, the tide seems to have turned and not nearly since the impressive performances of the last few weeks for Xhekaj.
The former Montreal Canadiens scout, Grant McCagg, made a big statement about the young Canadiens prospect:
"What a find that Xhekaj is. Nice parting gift from Bergevin. His IQ, mobility, shooting and puck control are all above average. And he's 6'4" 238 lbs on top of being tough. He is NHL ready in my opinion. With Edmundson's injury, he could make the team as soon as this season." - Grant McCagg
Do you believe in an Arber Xhekaj / Jordan Harris duo on the third pair? Do you think it would be interesting?
"If it were up to me, Harris, Xhekaj and Guhle would start the entire season in the top six defensemen in Montreal." - Grant McCagg
Xhekaj is a great story, he was invited as an undrafted player to the 2021 Habs camp, he was starting from very far away, but he has progressed incredibly well. He is now at the door of the CH.
What a turnaround, and what a great story! To be continued.
