We know what happened next, the Slovakian winger was preferred to the Canadian center and let's just say that this decision is turning to the advantage of the Habs, for now at least. While Slafkovsky scored his first NHL goal on Thursday night against the Arizona Coyotes, Wright has just one assist in three games with the Seattle Kraken.
But what's been the talk of the town is his usage time with the Kraken. While Slafkovsky is averaging just over ten minutes per game so far this season, Wright is only averaging just under seven minutes per game with his coach.
He's even been left out for two games and as Nicolas Desrosiers of Marqueur.com reports, it could very well be that the fourth overall pick in the 2022 draft returns to his junior team, the Kingston Frontenacs.
At least that's what TSN tipster Darren Dreger mentioned. According to Dreger, the Kraken is currently considering the idea of sending Wright back to junior to help his development.
This would be quite a turnaround in the situation, as before the season started, the Kraken had stated that they intended to keep their most recent first round pick in Seattle for the entire season. Stay tuned!
While Wright may be considered too strong for the Ontario Junior League, he will be much better off playing big minutes with the Frontenacs instead of warming the bench in the NHL.
He certainly wouldn't be the first or last player to go through this, and unlike Juraj Slafkovsky with the Habs, Wright cannot be sent to the AHL because of his junior status in Canada.
