Claude Julien was chosen to lead Team Canada to the Spengler Cup, but the country decided to withdraw from this traditional holiday tournament held in Europe. The veteran coach certainly wanted to use this showcase to get back behind the bench of an NHL team.
That said, TSN's Michael Farner reported beforehand that Canada had announced its withdrawal from the major tournament, which runs from December 26-31 in Switzerland. Farber also said that Claude Julien was already back in Canada...
From nothing, Julien was counting on this Championship to charm a National Hockey League team.
In his career, before being fired by the Montreal Canadiens in February 2021, Claude Julien has a pretty stellar record, with 17 years of experience as a head coach in the NHL. He won a Stanley Cup in 2011 while coaching the Boston Bruins.
In short, after a few months off, Julien was ready to lead the Canadian team, and at 61 years of age, he wants to return to the NHL.
