It must be said that despite McDavid's immense talent, the Oilers have not experienced the desired playoff successes in recent years.
The former first overall pick in the 2015 season has often been criticized since the beginning of his career because of the shortcomings in his defensive play.
This season, after 41 games, the Oilers captain has 60 points, placing him third in the NHL scoring rankings behind Jonathan Huberdeau and Leon Draisaitl.
In an interview in Las Vegas on the sidelines of the NHL All-Star weekend, the 25-year-old forward said he wasn't paying attention to the race.
"Honestly, I don't care. I don't care about running for the best scorer. I don't really pay attention to the other guys' statistics,» he said.
Now with a total of 49 points in 42 games, the Oilers will have to pull together quickly if they want to make the playoffs. That's all that matters to McDavid.
«I want to win games with Edmonton, with my team.»
With this statement, will we see the most talented player sacrifice a few points on the scorecard to focus on his defensive game?
It will certainly be less spectacular in the eyes of the spectators, but much more effective for the Edmonton Oilers!
