The Boston Bruins veteran received individual accolades from his teammates after his team was eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs, a scene reminiscent of what happened with Shea Weber last year after the finals.
Bergeron will be a free agent this summer and it seems more and more likely that he will hang up his skates, which would leave a huge hole in the Bruins' lineup.
But should Bergeron leave the Bruins this summer, a replacement will have to be found. As Jeff Drouin of Fanadiens.com reports, a big name could possibly land in Boston this summer.
One idea floated on Twitter suggests that Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele could become Bergeron's successor with the Bruins.
He's already been linked to Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, and all three players could cause havoc on the power play.
He still had a good season in Winnipeg with 70 points, including 29 goals in 67 games, but we remember that some of his teammates had strongly criticized the toxic atmosphere in the Jets locker room. Could a change of scenery be beneficial for the Jets forward?
Possibly, but since he has two seasons left on his contract at $6.125 million per year and is only 29 years old, the price to acquire him from the Bruins would most likely be very high, if not astronomical.
But I must admit that the idea is very good. Putting Scheifele together with Marchand and Pastrnak on the same trio could be a dream come true for many fans in Boston.
