On July 29, the Tampa Lightning signed veteran Corey Perry to a two-year contract worth $1 million annually. Montreal Canadiens fans lost one of their favorites, even though he only played one season on Quebec soil.
The right winger will find an old love when he arrives in Tampa Bay, as he has decided to take back his famous number 10. In Montreal, the number 10 is retired because of Guy Lafleur, so Perry took the number 94, which accompanied him during his junior career, when he played for the London Knights.
Remember that Perry wore the 10 during his association with the Anaheim Ducks and his short one-season stint with the Dallas Stars.
The only time Perry didn't wear the numbers 10 and 94 was at the international level, when the Ontario native had the 24. The number 10 was often used by other players, forcing "Scorey Perry" to select the 24. In addition, he had worn the 61 in his debut with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the past.
Perry will join a veteran group that is already well off the mark and has just defeated him two years in a row in the Stanley Cup Final. He will be looking to lift the Trophy for a second time, after winning it in 2007 with the Ducks.
