Appearing earlier today on the La Dose podcast, journalist Renaud Lavoie set the table for the traditional rookie tournament, a competition that obviously includes, among others, Montreal Canadiens rookies, including young first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky.

Renaud told a very interesting story about Brady Tkachuk, a story that set the stage for his brilliant start to his career.

The TVA Sports tipster recounted that after seeing him play just one game in the rookie tournament (in 2018), Ottawa Sens general manager Pierre Dorion himself decided to kick Brady Tkachuk out of the competition.

He went down to the room and said:

"You, you don't play anymore, you have no business here, you're too good for the rookies, see you at NHL camp."

And that ended the competition for Brady Tkachuk.

Tkachuk clearly has similarities to Slafkovsky at the same age, so it'll be interesting to see if Kent Hughes might be tempted to do the same, if the young Slovakian is ever dominant.

It could say a lot about his potential, as we just saw with the Sens' forward.

By way of comparison, Renaud reminds us that Jesperi Kotkaniemi, the CH's first choice that year, did not have a big tournament.
