Four prospects must indeed be qualified by June 1st in order to remain in the organization. With the 50-contract limit that Hughes must respect, it is far from certain that he will decide to retain their services.
The first and most well known of these prospects is Danish goaltender Frederik Dichow. It is surprising to see that the hockey team is on track to let him go for free.
At 22 years old, Dichow would have very little chance of receiving an offer from the hockey team, according to Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now.
This is mainly due to the fact that the Canadiens preferred Czech goaltender Jakub Dobes, not to mention Cayden Primeau, who could, however, be placed on the NHL waiver list next fall and also leave.
Continuing with goalies, Joe Vrbetic is likely to leave the hockey team's organization as well, after wearing the colors of the Trois-Rivières Lions and the Laval Rocket last season.
Defenseman Tony Sund, acquired in the three-team trade that sent Nick Bonino to Pittsburgh, might be able to secure a contract with the Laval Rocket, but nothing is less certain in his case.
Finally, forward Jack Gorniak will not be qualified by the team, according to D'Amico's statements.
Gorniak, 23, just finished a five-season stint with the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA. He reached a personal best of 15 points twice during the 2018-19 and 2021-22 campaigns.
