We are used to seeing trade proposals come by, but 99% of the time, they come from Montreal journalists and observers.

However, here's an interesting one involving the Montreal Canadiens, coming from a reputable Chicago media outlet.

As the famous lottery for the 2023 NHL Draft approaches quickly (in five days), a journalist covering the Blackhawks has looked into the possibility of Chicago making a trade with the Canadiens to move back slightly.

Kent Hughes would get his hands on the #3 overall pick that the Hawks are expected to have if nothing changes in the lottery.

Chicago-based Barstool Sports proposes a trade offer where the Hawks would indeed offer their first-round pick (3rd overall) and their second-round pick (56th overall) in exchange for the Canadiens' two first-round picks (5th overall and 17th overall).

Do you like the idea?

TO MONTREAL - #3 overall pick and #56 overall pick

TO CHICAGO - #5 overall pick and #17 overall pick

This would put the Habs in a position to secure the services of their second-favorite player among Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, Will Smith, and Matvei Michkov (behind Connor Bedard).

The question is whether Kent Hughes, the Canadiens' general manager, would accept this offer or be content to keep the team's two first-round picks.

And you, would you accept?

«The ideal situation would be if the Canadiens were in love with Matvei Michkov or Leo Carlsson. We could trade picks #3 and #56 for picks #5 and #17. If we could end up with Will Smith in addition to the 17th pick, which would be added to the 20th pick we already own, we could add two prospects like Gavin Brindley and Gabe Perreault who would be excellent additions to our pipeline.»
