In addition to the seven goals allowed, the incident involving Zack Kassian and Samuel Montembeault further tarnished the Habs' performance on Saturday night against the Oilers.
Indeed, no player present on the ice when Kassian went to hit Montembeault in the back of his net went to protect the Quebec goaltender, which is totally unacceptable within an NHL team. Jeff Petry was particularly criticized by Maxim Lapierre for his reaction to this incident that happened in front of his eyes.
When asked about the incident, head coach Dominique Ducharme did not target anyone in particular, but he was quick to lecture his players and say that if not a fight, there should at least have been a skirmish to send a message to Zack Kassian.
In any case, this sequence cruelly demonstrates the lack of emotion and courage that is currently the norm for the Tricolore. Michael Pezzetta tried to save the honor of his teammates by throwing the gloves in the third period, but the damage was already done.
