It's not surprising because every season as December approaches, the NHL trade market gets busy, but it's always interesting to hear it from the GM.
One of the names that has been circulating a lot over the past few months is Josh Anderson.
He continues to be a very useful player, applying good checking, working hard in the corners and scoring his share of goals.
Oilers trade rumor involving Anderson.
Last week, Georges Laraque mentioned this to Tony Marinaro:
Knowing that Laraque still seems to have very good contacts within the Oilers organization, this is noteworthy. Without saying that serious discussions have been initiated between the Habs and the Oilers, the former Habs strongman believes that adding a power forward would definitely help the Oilers.
He probably didn't say that randomly, and we just got a very interesting new clue.
Last night, Sportsnet's renowned insider, Elliotte Friedman, reported the following information:
So basically, Friedman comes to confirm that the Oilers are currently actively seeking, on the trade market, a player exactly like Josh Anderson.
Does this mean they are only targeting Anderson? Absolutely not, but it certainly corroborates Georges Laraque's statement.
Anderson could be a perfect winger for Connor McDavid. We're talking about two fast skaters here, and the best player in the league could use a teammate to help defend him from some questionable checking, as was the case in a recent Edmonton-Los Angeles matchup.
Could we see a bidding war between the two Alberta teams for the services of Josh Anderson?
It's hard to say at this point, but it could certainly be interesting for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
To be continued.
