After much consideration, the Chicago Blackhawks have decided to place forward Brett Connolly on waivers. The 29-year-old veteran had been acquired on April 8 from the Florida Panthers.
The 2020-2021 season was extremely difficult for the former sixth overall pick in the 2010 NHL draft. He had only four points in 21 games with the Panthers before being traded to Chicago, where he had two points in ten games.
Consistency has never been Connolly's strength, but this time around, all the stars seem to be pointing downhill career-wise. He will likely join the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks' AHL feeder club.
It's a heartbreaking decision on the part of Hawks head coach Jeremy Colliton, however, some of the young players in the organization have shown great things.
This is a pure and simple demonstration of how cruel the business that is the NHL can really be. Human side or not, you have to perform.
