While some reporters were expecting an announcement about a possible winter classic in Montreal, the NHL's number one man instead gave details about the All-Star Game that will take place in just under two weeks in Florida.
Bettman also took the opportunity to discuss other hot topics across the NHL, but it was a tweet from TVA Sports reporter Renaud Lavoie that caught the attention of hockey fans in Quebec regarding the perennial issue of the return of the Quebec Nordiques.
As we know, there have been several statements on this subject over the past few years. Despite the fact that Quebec City is a fit perfect for hockey, NHL officials preferred to add teams in Las Vegas and Seattle.
Even Michel Therrien had mentioned a few months ago that Geoff Molson would never agree to share hockey-related revenues with Quebec City.
However, when the NHL commissioner publicly admits that the president of the Canadiens would support a return of the Nordiques to Quebec City, there is still a glimmer of hope.
Gary Bettman denied the rumor that Molson would be "AGAINST" the return of the Nordiques in Quebec City.
Do you believe it?
In short, former Nordiques fans, of which I am a part, have been burned for several years and I have the impression that patience will be required in this matter, once again.
Bettman also mentioned that he is proud of what is happening in Arizona this season and that everything is going great. Well...
That's a pretty embarrassing statement, and embarrassing to see his insistence on defending the Coyotes, but hey.
