As notably reported by our colleagues at RDT, while the Montreal Canadiens' preseason schedule will finally kick off this month, please note a significant change.

For the upcoming season, the CH management made a special request to the NHL, which has been accepted by Gary Bettman.

Kent Hughes requested an adjustment to the preseason schedule, reducing the number of preseason games from eight to six to prevent player injuries.

Recall, in particular, that Mike Matheson was injured last season in the preseason games, and the CH rightly wants to minimize these risks this year.

Clearly, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are taking all necessary measures to have as healthy a team as possible for the 2023-24 campaign.

Renaud Lavoie explains,

Last year, the Canadiens played eight preseason games, this year it's down to six. It was once again a priority for the senior management of the Canadiens, Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, to reduce the number of preseason games for several reasons. First, they wanted to prevent players from being exhausted before the first game of the season. Secondly, injuries, Mike Matheson was injured during training camp and wasn't able to return for the start of the season last year. - Renaud Lavoie

This request has indeed been accepted by the NHL, so we will have slightly fewer CH preseason games this month.
