Throughout the offseason, several free agents were linked to the Montreal Canadiens, including Ryan Getzlaf.

The Ducks captain could have made the decision to leave the organization and join a top contender. However, he decided to stay in his comfort zone in Anaheim, the organization he has played in his entire career. If his good friend and former Duck Corey Perry had decided to stay in Montreal, perhaps the 36-year-old center would have decided to come to town.

In any case, he decided to stay with the team that selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft. The giant athlete gave an interview with Kent French, a reporter who's been assigned to cover the Ducks for a very long time, where he explained the reason why he stayed in Orange County. Obviously, Getzlaf was scared about not being a member of the Ducks family anymore.

If the Habs had made a move for this player, it would have been a major acquisition. Getzlaf has slowed down a lot on the ice, however, his leadership is incredibly recognized. He could have been a huge help to the Tricolore's younger players. He is one of the best playmakers of his generation, and Suzuki could have learned a lot from the number 15.
