Since the Hockey Canada scandal came to light, the discussion about abuse in sport has only increased. The hearings currently taking place in Ottawa are also allowing more cases to surface.
According to Rick Westhead, since Wednesday, when the Hockey Canada government hearing resumed, 11 more victims have reached out to him with their stories. Westhead also explained on Twitter that one woman even found him in Ottawa to tell her story in person.
Former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy also said that this is just the tip of the iceberg and that there will be many more victims of assault telling their stories.
It is outrageous and especially disturbing to know that all this was tolerated by the sports federation. Let's hope that things will be cleaned up soon and that solutions will be found to help the victims to denounce the perpetrators without fear.
Let's remember that the CEO of Hockey Canada, Scott Smith, declared Wednesday during a testimony before Parliament that he would not resign from his position. He believes he is the right man to handle this crisis.
