Based on recent comments from Kent Hughes and Chantal Machabée, there will be a captain in Montreal in 2022-2023 and an announcement could be made at the annual golf tournament.
With the departure of Shea Weber, the CH will have to name a new captain and three candidates seem to stand out: Nick Suzuki, Joel Edmundson and Brendan Gallagher. Three very good choices.
According to most fans and observers, the choice should be Suzuki, but not so fast.
Yesterday on TSN 690, tipster David Pagnotta said he would be surprised if it wasn't Gallagher. Well, look at that!
According to him, Gallagher has been the heart and soul of the team for a long time, and he inspires his teammates to work harder, to be better. Also, as Felix Forget (Danslescoulisses.com) reports, in terms of seniority in Montreal, only Carey Price has been there longer than Gally.
Will those points make him the next Tricolore captain? Hard to say, but Pagnotta seems convinced that they will.
It's interesting, because Pagnotta is very well connected in the NHL, and if what he says is true, it would be a bit of a surprise for many when it seems to be between Suzuki and Edmundson for months.
In your opinion, would Gallagher be the right choice? Which one would be your ideal candidate?
Some people have started talking about Kaiden Guhle (who has been a captain everywhere he's been), but he's obviously way too young. However, if Gallagher is named, maybe Guhle could be next?
It will be really interesting to watch!
