Since he was hired as VP of Hockey Operations, Jeff Gorton hasn't had to make any major decisions. His biggest concern right now is naming the new general manager.

As the hiring process moves forward, the Habs management will be able to focus full time on the future of the organization very soon.

Among the files that will need to be addressed first is that of defenseman Jordan Harris, who tops the list.

The 21-year-old defenseman who plays for Northeastern University absolutely must sign a contract with the Habs by the end of the year or he will become a free agent.

A former third-round pick in 2018, Harris has a lot of upside that could help him become a regular NHL defenseman. This year with the Huskies, the Massachusetts native has 12 points in 21 games.

TVA Sports reporter Anthony Martineau has also identified another player who should be a priority for Jeff Gorton in the coming weeks: Logan Mailloux.

After his suspension, the London Knights' guard has had an amazing debut in 2022. In his first two games, the 18 year old had two goals and two assists and an impressive +7 rating.

In addition to his offensive skills, Mailloux has proven his ability on the defensive side of the net. Still without an NHL entry-level contract, it would not be at all surprising to see the Habs sign him to a three-year rookie contract in the coming months.

Jeff Gorton and his partner will have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and it is obvious that these two files are currently priorities.
