We've talked extensively about the state funeral of the great Guy Lafleur, which was held today, and where we were able to meet several distinguished guests.

Among those present, there was one who particularly caught our attention: Joe Sakic.

Even though his team is playing its first game of the 2022 playoffs tonight in Colorado, Sakic was in Montreal today to honor the Blonde Demon. Wow, what a class act!

Respect!

When asked about it, Sakic told Jean-François Chaumont why he absolutely had to be there today.

I wanted to be there, it was just natural. I was lucky enough to be rooming with him on the road. He taught me a lot of stuff, not just on the ice. Guy included everybody, he respected everybody. And that's why people loved him so much." - Joe Sakic

It's clear here that Guy Lafleur had a big impact on the life and career of the current Avalanche GM.

"He took me under his wing. As much as he was a good hockey player, he was a good person. And maybe even more so. Despite his status, he made everyone around him feel special. I loved his sense of humour. He was a great role model for the kids on the team. I would watch him interact with the fans. As a young person, you want to learn from a role model like him. He always stayed generous with people." - Joe Sakic

As we were saying this morning, there was so little that required Sakic to be there, especially considering what's going on tonight for his club, but he was there.

Good for him! For the interesting details:
