As we reported earlier today, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes has practically acquired a former first round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks for free:

Nicolas Beaudin was indeed acquired for Cam Hillis, and the Hawks sent another player to the Habs, just to replace him:

So we can really say that Hughes practically acquired Beaudin for free.

Now we have just learned that the New York Islanders have submitted the name of forward Kieffer Bellows to waivers this Wednesday.

Bellows, 24, is the son of former Montreal Canadiens forward Brian Bellows, who played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1992 to 1995.

He was drafted in the first round (19th overall) by the Islanders in 2016,

Bellows had an interesting 19 points (6 goals) in 45 games with the New York Islanders last season.

Remember that, until November 1st, last year's rankings apply, so the Montreal Canadiens still have the first right to claim the players of their choice from waivers.

Do you think Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton should consider claiming Bellows?
