As Priyanta Emrith, who is excellent at covering the Montreal Canadiens, reports, the organization has announced that general manager Kent Hughes will be at a press conference tomorrow.

Hughes will actually speak to the media (virtually) this Tuesday and it will be really interesting to see what he has to say, the day after the start of the infamous 2022 NHL "Combine".

Several "beat" reporters brought it up, it's still a curious time to announce and hold a press conference.

It could just be to debrief the Finland trip (to Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton), it could be to look back on the first day of the "Combine," which will be a big one.

On the other hand, we're not talking about "usual" reasons for announcing a press briefing, especially in the middle of the "Combine." Hughes doesn't have to report on his recruiting trip to Finland, and he certainly doesn't have to report on his meeting with young Shane Wright.

So is there anything else to announce? For example, a big news that has been hanging around for a long time and that we are waiting for any minute? (Martin St-Louis' new contract)

The very famous Darren Dreger (TSN) mentioned this last week:

The @CanadiensMTL is keeping a low profile, but we can expect Martin St. Louis' contract extension as head coach to be announced very soon. - Darren Dreger

Is this what Kent Hughes will announce tomorrow? Is that the reason for the press briefing? It's quite possible, but one thing is certain, Dreger believes the CH GM will make this important announcement "very soon".

Stay tuned!
