The opening day of the free agent market will be very interesting and exciting. Several big names will be free as a bird and could change address.
Among them are: Evgeni Malkin, Kristopher Letang, Filip Forsberg, Johnny Gaudreau and many others.
There is also Claude Giroux, who will certainly generate a lot of interest.
Giroux, 34, has 23 points in 18 games with the Panthers and 42 points in 57 games with the Philadelphia Flyers this season.
Plus, we're talking about an outstanding face off guy.
As for his future in the NHL, during his post-season review, the Ontario native opened the door to a return to Florida. However, another scenario seems to be taking shape.
As my colleague Christian Matte (Marqueur.com) reports, there's journalist Sam Carchidi, who follows the Flyers and knows the forward well, who wouldn't be surprised to see Giroux head to the Ottawa Senators, who would benefit greatly from the veteran's presence to help the young core.
This would be a homecoming for Giroux, who was born and raised in Hearst.
Carchidi, who has excellent sources, even puts a price tag on it. He expects a contract of about three years, worth between $5 and $6 million per season.
That sounds pretty reasonable! Would you sign him at that price?
