Over the weekend, the Montreal Canadiens general manager was active, trading Ryan Poehling and Jeff Petry, and acquiring Michael Matheson and a pick. (in addition to signing Rem Pitlick)
As usual, Kent Hughes was immediately available after these announcements to answer questions from reporters.
In addition to explaining why he really wanted to acquire Michael Matheson:
Hughes even took the opportunity to announce his colors, with a view to a future acquisition.
"Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said he will try to acquire a right-handed defenseman. He also added that he is still open to trading others (players) to reduce their overall salary cap." - David Pagnotta
Without getting too far ahead of the game with names, let's remember that Tyson Barrie is available in Edmonton and was linked to the Canadiens earlier this summer.
Barrie, 30, has 41 points in 73 games in 2021-22 and 48 points in 56 games in 2020-21. He is signed for another $4.5 million through 2024.
