There has been some movement in the NHL waivers in the last few minutes, as the Philadelphia Flyers have just placed a surprising name on waivers.

2016 first-round pick Kiefer Bellows is now available absolutely free.

Kiefer Bellows placed on waivers

Bellows, 24, has one goal in 15 games this season in Philly. It didn't click with head coach John Tortorella and he was playing very few minutes.

In his NHL career, Bellows, a 19th overall pick, has 12 goals (26 points) in 83 games.

In his most recent AHL stint, he had 9 points in 11 games.

Also note that Kiefer Bellows started the season with the New York Islanders, who waived him, at which point the Philadelphia Flyers quickly claimed him. (they were among the first to have priority selection from waivers)

Will Bellows be claimed again? It certainly seems likely, as he wowed the gallery at the World Junior Hockey Championship with his 9 goals in 7 games.

Under the right circumstances, he could blossom, just like a certain Eeli Tolvanen did, who was waived earlier this season and has been shining with the Seattle Kraken ever since.

More details to follow.
