Now that the Pittsburgh Penguins organization has settled one of its three big deals of the summer, signing forward Bryan Rust, all eyes are now on Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin.
We're talking about two star players who could potentially leave Pittsburgh and be free as a bird in less than two months.
On July 13, both veterans could become free agents without compensation. Here are the latest developments on these two major NHL issues.
"Communication still exists between the Malkin and Letang groups and the Penguins. No one has made a final decision at this point. As long as those people are talking to each other, it's possible Letang and Malkin could come back." - Renaud Lavoie
According to the TVA Sports tipster, the new owners could change the situation and complicate everything:
"The new owners (of the Penguins) are also the owners of the Boston Red Sox and they got rid of Mookie Betts because his advanced stats were not good." - Renaud Lavoie
So we shouldn't be surprised if they reserve the same fate for Letang as well as Malkin. Remember that last week, we learned that the Penguins' GM would have made two very low (even ridiculous) contract offers to Malkin and Letang, as if he wanted them out of Pittsburgh.
It doesn't look good, but we'll be watching closely.
Since then, however, the offers have reportedly improved. Stay tuned!
"So I hope that if Malkin and Letang stay, it will be for the right reasons and if they leave, it will be because we've decided to move on and not because of the advanced stats because they're two very great leaders." - Renaud Lavoie
In your opinion, will Malkin and/or Letang be wearing a new uniform next season?
