It's the story of the hour in the hockey world, this monster transaction concluded between the Calgary Flames and the Florida Panthers.

To Florida:

Matthew Tkachuk +
Conditional 4th round pick 2025 (who may become a 4th round pick 2026)

To Calgary:

Jonathan Huberdeau +
MacKenzie Weegar +
Cole Schwindt +
Conditional 1st round pick 2025 (which may become a 1st round pick 2026)

Shocker, this story may well not be over. See what the very reliable tipster David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period) just published.

"As I mentioned a few minutes ago on @SiriusXMNHL, some teams have already inquired about Huberdeau, to make a trade with the Flames. Many are wondering if the Flames are seriously considering trading him back

Also, Huberdeau was expecting to hear from Florida on extension (contract) talks. That didn't happen. He was traded, instead." - David Pagnotta

So there are already teams calling Calgary to try to acquire Huberdeau. As many have mentioned, Jonathan Huberdeau will be free as a bird next summer and the Flames may lose him "for nothing."

Is the Flames' plan to (already) trade him and ask for the moon in exchange? That's a lot of talk right now.

We have to admit that GM Brad Treliving won't want to live another situation like the one he had with Johnny Gaudreau (he won't want to lose another star player without receiving anything in exchange).

Will we see Huberdeau in a Flames uniform?

Our prediction: the teams have made inquiries and in the end, Huberdeau will start the season with the Flames. However, he could be traded at the 2023 trade deadline.

Obviously, the first contacts and pre-negotiations are already being made.
