At the beginning of the campaign, Patrick Roy announced that this would be his last season behind the Quebec Remparts' bench. There was therefore no doubt that he would try to go out in a big way.
And that's what he's doing, as his team has had a great season and impressive playoff run. The Remparts actually have a perfect record of 12 wins during the spring tournament, sweeping their first three rounds.
On Thursday night, during his segment on TVA Sports, former NHL coach Michel Bergeron had big plans for Patrick Roy's future. He claims that the former goaltender must absolutely return to an NHL bench.
"I know his years in Colorado were not necessarily conclusive, but I don't care about that! He's a career coach. Paul Maurice, Rick Bowness, and John Tortorella all had multiple opportunities. Yes, Patrick is hot-headed and scares some GMs. But in the end, what do you want? To win!" - Michel Bergeron
Bergeron went even further in his analysis. He thinks Roy would be the perfect man to take the Ottawa Senators to another level.
"With the Senators! A young team that would see Patrick generate a record-breaking season ticket sales in a market where the arena isn't always full. The rivalry with the Canadiens would also reach another level, that's for sure." - Michel Bergeron
According to a report by Pablo Herrera-Vergara on the DLC website, Pierre Dorion attended at least one of the two games in Gatineau earlier this week. Was he there to observe his next head coach? Only time will tell, but Roy is definitely not done with hockey. In fact, he recently left the door open for a return to Quebec next season, but under one condition...
Roy will certainly hold a position in the hockey world next season. It remains to be seen which one it will be!
