Despite many interesting transactions made in the last few months, despite the good decisions made since he took office, Kent Hughes is still in hot water:
Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are indeed still in trouble with the salary cap and they clearly don't have the space to sign the organization's new young center, Kirby Dach.
The team has no wiggle room and we know that is the number one priority. So we should definitely expect more moves between now and the start of next season (at least to sign Dach).
According to various sources, Hughes and Jeff Gorton are already in "solutions" mode and are actively trying to trade a forward.
According to Jimmy Murphy's report, the sacrificed player would be center Christian Dvorak.
As he mentioned in his recent article, Murphy was told that several teams in the NHL are interested in acquiring Dvorak. This explains the fact that Dvorak is the one who will possibly be traded before the start of the season (he is the easiest to trade, as he generates a lot of interest, unlike Mike Hoffman)
His name has been out there since the trade deadline and I'm hearing it even more right now. I can't see how Dvorak can start the season with the Canadiens. There's a lot more than just smoke right now and with his fairly reasonable contract, there are a number of teams, especially cup contenders who need a center, interested in him!" - Jimmy Murphy
It seems pretty clear here that Dvorak would be on his way out of Montreal, while the observer doesn't see how D-Vo can start the season with the Habs.
Dvorak, 26, makes $4.45 million through 2025 and has 33 points in 56 games in 2021-22.
At least three teams have reportedly contacted Hughes about him. What would you ask for in return?
