The Carolina Hurricanes are currently at the top of the Metropolitan Division and second in the NHL, 7 points behind the mighty Boston Bruins. They are having a great season and this could push GM Don Waddell to make a move by the trade deadline.

He could make a trade to further stabilize his roster and improve his chances in the spring tournament. It would also not be surprising if the player targeted was a center.

The question now is not who would come in, but who would leave the Canes. The departure would not be detrimental to the current roster, but on the other hand, Waddell would certainly have to pay a salary. In this sense, one name comes to mind, that of Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

The latter definitely does not meet the expectations of the organization, since his arrival with the club. This is without forgetting his lucrative contract of $4.82M for more than seven years.

David Pagnotta thinks that the Canes, despite the problems listed above, could still try to move the young forward.

"One thought, If the Carolina Hurricanes do something from left field and bring in a center with a long, expensive contract, can they convince the other team to take Jesperi Kotkaniemi?"

However, we must be careful here, Pagnotta goes to a nuance that will not be a most easy task for Waddell, which is to convince. Which formation will accept to welcome Kotkaniemi, in the middle of the season, at this salary? As Charles-Alexis Brisebois of DLC mentions, this kind of deal is usually done in the off-season.

A case to follow...
