The Montreal Canadiens' young rookie has not been playing regularly since the beginning of the season. On Friday night, he was on the ice for seven minutes and 53 seconds.
So, as Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now reports, sending Slafkovsky to the World Junior Championship in December would be an interesting option.
Why?
Because it would be the perfect time to evaluate the youngster in a winning environment and see where he is in his development.
Also, considering that Slafkovsky's playing time is not the same away from home, Kent Hughes would be well advised to send him to this tournament, considering that the team will be playing seven away games between December 19 and January 3.
Slaffy would likely average 20+ minutes of usage per game and would be looked to carry a very large part of the offensive load for Slovakia.
Finally, his presence at the WJC could confirm to everyone that Slafkovsky is really the true first overall pick in the last draft.
