According to what was reported by Arthur Staple, a reporter for The Athletic, the New York Rangers may have an interest in Habs defenseman Ben Chiarot.
The Rangers would be looking for a left-handed defenseman who is reliable defensively. Ben Chiarot fits the bill. The number 8 is probably the most reliable and stable defender since the beginning of the season. He could undoubtedly interest other teams.
The right side of the "Blue shirts" defense is quite excellent with Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and young Nils Lundqvist, but it seems that the left side lacks crunch.
Chiarot is in the final year of his three-year contract, signed in 2019, paying him $3.5 million a year. If the Habs decided to liquidate its veterans at the trade deadline, perhaps a deal involving Ben Chiarot would pay off handsomely for the organization.
Chiarot takes his game up a notch in the playoffs, he could definitely help the Rangers, who are looking to make their mark in a powerful division.
Let's talk! Could the Habs get a first pick? Of course! I've already seen teams empty their bank of draft picks for support players. These are only speculations, but very realistic.
