The Winnipeg Jets arrived in town early this week for their game against the Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night. The forward of the Manitoba club, Pierre-Luc Dubois, took the opportunity to officially launch a foundation that bears his name. The foundation will raise funds to equip young players in need in the Lower St. Laurent region.
A wonderful news.
If the Quebecer is at the heart of this project since 2020, he was never able to inaugurate it because of the pandemic. In a press conference, Dubois said he was honored to take the torch from Vincent Lecavalier, who founded the whole thing more than twenty years ago.
"There are many causes that could be helped that are very important, but I've spent so much time on the outdoor rinks. I've seen how hockey can unite young people, build relationships or friendships that you're going to have for the rest of your life."
"You can ask my parents, they would pick me up at 9 p.m. I'm going to have those memories for the rest of my life. I know how expensive hockey can be, but to see the smiles on the faces of all the kids gathered at the rink, it really meant a lot to me." - Pierre-Luc Dubois
The one who has long been linked to the CH because of his contractual situation is currently experiencing the best start of his NHL career. In 44 games this season, he has accumulated 20 goals and 29 assists for a total of 49 points.
Dubois could become an uncompensated free agent as early as the summer of 2024 if he accepts the one-season qualifying offer that will be offered to him at the end of the current campaign. It is therefore certain that the rumours about him will resurface this summer. Seeing him linked with his foundation to Vincent Lecavalier, who is now a consultant for the CH, will certainly not help to silence the speculations.
