Potential Ilya Samsonov trade to Montreal: the price to pay becomes clearer!
Trade rumors possibly sending Ilya Samsonov to Montreal have made their way to Washington, and Washington Hockey Now reporter Sammii Silber has shared some very interesting new information.
The Washington Capitals would be looking for a player like Artturi Lekhonen to complete their roster and improve their depth for the playoffs. (a player who would be worth a first-round pick, according to many experts)
On the other hand, Silber adds that the Caps will want another goalie, if Ilya Samsonov is traded to Montreal.
Could the Habs offer them Jake Allen or Samuel Montembeault?
It remains a possibility, and it seems obligatory if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton want to get their hands on the talented Russian.
Washington is indeed exploring the possibility of «breaking up» its duo of two very young goalies (Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek) and they would like to keep a young goalie, and add a veteran.
Their ideal scenario would be to keep either Vanecek or Ilya Samsonov, and add a Marc-André Fleury for example. Could Jake Allen please them and replace Fleury when he is back to health?
Hard to say, but it could be decisive.
So there would be two possible scenarios:
- A three-way transaction, between Montreal, Washington and Chicago, where Samsonov goes to Montreal and Fleury to Washington, for example.
Or
- Something like : Jake Allen + Artturi Lehkonen vs Ilya Samsonov
