Renaud Lavoie has revealed the three teams interested in trading for Cayden Primeau
Although he performed well during his first start of the season last Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils, Cayden Primeau may have to wait before Martin St-Louis sends him again to guard the net for the Canadiens.
The ideal scenario would be to send him to the Laval Rocket in the American League. However, as reported by Habsolumentfan.com, the Canadiens still fear losing him through waivers.
This was highlighted by journalist Renaud Lavoie during his appearance on the JiC show on TVA Sports.
Here are his words:
"Several teams are watching this situation and they're thinking: if Cayden Primeau goes on waivers, that will be our time to pick him up."
According to him, no fewer than three teams have shown interest in the young Canadiens goalie: the Anaheim Ducks, the New Jersey Devils, and the St. Louis Blues (especially in the trade market).
Looking closely at these teams' goaltending situation this season, it's evident that their backup goalies raise questions.
It might be better to have a goalie with some NHL experience on hand, allowing younger goalies from these organizations to develop in the American League:
"These teams wonder: Would we be better off sending this young player to play two or three games a week [in the AHL] or just one here [in the NHL]?» - Renaud Lavoie
The same question could be asked about Primeau. Despite his NHL experience, under normal circumstances, he should be the number one goalie with the Rocket instead of warming the bench with the Canadiens.
Given Jake Allen's excellent start to the season and the presence of Samuel Montembeault, the next start of number 30 isn't imminent, but one imagines Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have a plan for their young goalie.
For now, Cayden Primeau is still with the team, but the question is for how much longer.
