Last night, we witnessed a magical scene at the Bell Centre after the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild. All the Canadiens players stayed on the ice to give a proper handshake to legendary goaltender Marc-André Fleury.

See the footage:

It's extremely rare to see something like this, but it was such a well-thought-out gesture.

During his post-game press conference, captain Nick Suzuki revealed which member of the Canadiens organization came up with the idea for the heartfelt team handshake for Marc-André Fleury.

A Brilliant Idea from Mike Matheson

It was indeed the Quebec-born defenseman who made it happen. Wow!

«Habs captain Nick Suzuki said that Mike Matheson approached him with the idea for the Habs players to stay on the ice and shake hands with Marc-André Fleury at the end of the game.»

What a fantastic idea and a wonderful gesture that speaks volumes about the kind of person Mike Matheson is.

This allowed us to witness a truly magical moment, and it gave Marc-André Fleury an experience he won't soon forget.

Of course, let's remember that Fleury and the Wild secured a 4-0 victory last night, with the Quebec-born goaltender recording a 19-save shutout.

It was the perfect way for him to close out his final career game at the Bell Centre.

In the Wild's win, Frederick Gaudreau recorded a goal and an assist, as did young Marco Rossi, while Liam Ohgren and Devon Shore were the other goal scorers.
