The 33-year-old forward will play the final year of his $10.5 million contract in 2022-2023 and there have been recent rumours of a possible trade with the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers.
However, as reported by Marco Normandin of Habsolumentfan.com, a former NHL defenseman reportedly has a hint as to where No. 88 might be headed next.
Ryan Whitney, who previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks, is now an analyst for the Spittin' Chiclets podcast and according to him, the Buffalo Sabres are where Kane will continue his career after the 2022-2023 season.
It's not impossible, in fact it's very likely, that another NHL team will acquire him before the trade deadline, but since Kane is from the Buffalo area, it seems logical that he may want to finish his career with the Sabres and thus sign as a free agent next summer.
Whitney added to that by saying that the Sabres will win a Stanley Cup before the Toronto Maple Leafs. What's that?
He said the Sabres could be one of the best teams in the NHL in the next few years and that Kane's arrival could entice some free agents to move to Buffalo.
Time will tell if the Sabres can win the Stanley Cup before the Leafs, but the idea of Patrick Kane in a Sabres uniform makes a lot of sense and he could end his career at home.
