In the past few hours, the popular site The Athletic has published an interesting list, to rank (in their opinion) the players with the best chance of winning the 2023 Calder Trophy, the trophy given to the National Hockey League's rookie of the year.
You can guess that their ranking is causing a huge stir, especially because according to them, Juraj Slafkovsky, the first pick of the 2022 draft, would have only a 2.3% chance of winning the Calder.
As for Shane Wright, nearly nine times as many reporters (18.2%) believe he can be the 2022-23 Rookie of the Year. Ouch.
For the rest of the rankings, note that:
- Owen Power (Buffalo) is the clear favorite, with over 43% of the vote.
- Matthew Beniers (Seattle) comes in second, with over 22% of the vote.
3. Shane Wright (18.2%)
4. Mason McTavish (4.5%)
5. Ivan Miroshnichenko (2.3%)
5. Jake Sanderson (2.3%)
5. Juraj Slafkovsky (2.3%)
But as they say, these are just expert predictions. It can change very quickly, that's for sure.
