Phillip Danault made the decision to change his environment by signing a six-year, $33 million deal with the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings wanted him so badly, they almost offered the moon to Danault's clan, while promising him that he would be the team's 2nd center and that he would be included in the massive offense.

Many teams wanted to add Danault to their roster as he remains a "perfect" player defensively. In fact, Eric Staal made it clear after the Stanley Cup Final that any winning team had to have Danault on their roster. I guess that's why the Kings were so aggressive?

That being said, after Danault opted for the Kings on Wednesday afternoon, the social media went wild and some pointed out that Danault was exhausted of being the only Quebec spokesperson in the locker room. I admit, I was one of them. Stéphane Fiset, Stéphane Fiset, who works for Don Meehan's firm (Danault's agent), had to bring people like me back to order by assuring that the Quebecer was feeding off criticism of the fans and that he was committed to his role as spokesperson.

These are not the reasons for his departure, if we are to believe Mr. Fiset. Danault decided to play in Los Angeles because he was promised an important role on the team and was given a huge contract. On top of that, under the sun and palm trees of California, far from the hustle and bustle of Quebec, I would have said yes too!
