What's going on with the Philadelphia Flyers? They were seen as a potential NHL powerhouse this year and yet, it's a real disaster.

The Pennsylvania team is currently ranked 24th in the NHL with eight wins in 23 games. The team's poor performance has even cost Michel Therrien and Alain Vigneault their jobs.

However, all indications are that the team's shortcoming is on the ice and not behind the bench. Yesterday was Mike Yeo's first game as head coach and the Flyers found a way to lose 7-5 to the Colorado Avalanche.

Philly allowed a combined total of 14 goals in a 24-hour period... This is totally unacceptable.

Who could pay the price?

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek have some news today and two names stood out, captain Claude Giroux and defenseman Ivan Provorov.

Giroux is in the last year of his contract, so the chances of seeing him with the team next year are slim. The Flyers could inevitably make a youthful turn. The Franco-Ontarian could clearly help a team that is struggling offensively, as he has 21 points in 23 games this season.

The Flyers have never had the success they were hoping for under his leadership, so perhaps a change of guard could be beneficial.

Ivan Provorov would be a very interesting player for other teams. He is only 24 years old and he doesn't seem to have reached his full potential. The Russian has only eight points in 23 games, which is far too few for a player of his caliber. He doesn't seem to be in his prime this year. Maybe he is no longer satisfied in Philadelphia?

Remember that the Flyers acquired several quality defensemen during the off-season, including Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen. But if he's on the trade market, GMs will be scrambling to get him on their team. A good all-around defenseman.
