The Carolina Hurricanes have tabled a one-year, $6.1 million offer to Jesperi Kotkaniemi. So it's payback time for the Canes, who saw Marc Bergevin deliver a monster offer to Sebastian Aho in July 2019. At the time, Bergevin was confident that the Carolina organization, which was far less wealthy than the Montreal Canadiens, would turn down the offer due to the structure of the contract.
Don Waddell pushed his revenge all the way to the end by saying something almost identical to what Bergevin said in 2019: "Jesperi Kotkaniemi has accepted our offer. He wants to come to Carolina. He sees the core we've built here and he wants to be part of it. We are proud, but there is still a waiting period. The offer, with the compensation and the core we have, made us realize this was the best chance we had to get the player."
Of course, the entire organization is pushing this revenge to the max, especially the guy who runs the Carolina Hurricanes Twitter account. He's a pain in the ass, that one!
And in French on top of that, just to make sure that the knife is well twisted...
Waddell didn't want to be robbed of the show by his social network manager, as he retaliated with a $20 signing bonus. That ridiculous bonus isn't even a joke. So the guy is building a business by making decisions based on revenge???
Here's the detailed statement through which Waddell outright taunts Marc Bergevin, who just sent a nice curveball to his counterpart, who will now have to find a solution in order not to lose the services of his young Finnish center. With the departure of Phillip Danault and a potential blowout at No. 15, it would hurt in maudit for the Red-White Blue if he didn't find a solution to this problem.
In the end, if the Canadiens don't match this offer, they will receive a first-round pick and a third-round pick in 2022 from Carolina.
