As the much talked about 2022 National Hockey League draft approaches, more and more information is circulating about what is going on behind the scenes.

We have just learned a good one.

"Pierre Lebrun mentioning that New Jersey has contacted Montreal to move up a selection (from the 2nd pick to the 1st pick overall) to take Slafkovsky is completely consistent with what I've heard from my sources, regarding the Devils preferring Slaf over Wright. Rumor has it that MTL likes Slaf more, too, though." - Grant McCagg, former Habs scout

So there's McCagg who mentioned it, and now the reputable LeBrun is adding to it. According to the latter's information, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would be very interested in drafting Juraj Slafkovsky, but they would also be perfectly comfortable with the idea of ending up with Shane Wright.

As for the Devils, they would absolutely want Slafkovsky, mostly because they have absolutely no need for a young center. (They already have young Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha).

So, according to Pierre LeBrun as well as Grant McCagg (a former CH scout), the New Jersey Devils would really try to make a trade, right now, with the Tricolore. It would look like this:

TO MONTREAL: Second overall pick (Shane Wright) ++

TO NEW JERSEY: First overall pick (Juraj Slafkovsky)

As for the "++", the Devils could possibly add a young player, a prospect, or draft picks.
