According to many experts, one of the big things the Montreal Canadiens organization is missing before it can really hope to emerge from the rebuild and aim for championships is a true number one goalie of the future.

However, we realize that Kent Hughes may already have his goalie of the future in his hands, and there are a few candidates to claim that title.

1- Jakub Dobes

He really had another outstanding season in the NCAA, he was nominated for several prestigious individual honors and he is definitely a name to watch.

Dobes, 21, is a 6-foot-5 goaltender drafted in the 5th round by the Habs. In 38 games this season, he has maintained a 2.33 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage (.934 last season).

He played behind a porous defense, but he certainly stood out.

2- Cayden Primeau

We know him well, but let's remember that Primeau is only 23 years old. He could still be a long-term solution for Montreal.

3- Frederik Dichow

A 6 foot 4 inch goalie who is currently playing in the best league in Sweden. At the age of 22, he played 16 games for Frolunda this season (2.76 GAA and .899 SV%).

4- Samuel Montembeault

The masked man who is the oldest on this list, but at 26 years old and considering his recent performances, we have to talk about him as a candidate to be the Tricolore's goalie of the future.

5- Joe Vrbetic

Finally, as my colleague Alex Desrosiers points out, let's not forget Vrbetic, who is currently playing in Trois-Rivières in the ECHL.

Only 20 years old, Vrbetic had an incredible game yesterday, stopping 42 of 43 shots for a .977 save percentage. In a 2-1 Lions win over the Everblades, the young netminder was awarded first star of the game.

In his first season in the pros, he has a 13-10-0 record. Yes, his 3.52 GAA and 88.9% save percentage are not great, but he is still very young.

A seventh-round pick of the Canadiens in 2021, the Ontario native stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 186 pounds. He also played four games in Laval this season and certainly has the physicality for the job.

A name to watch in the coming years!

And who do you think could be the CH's goalie of the future? Do you think it's one of the names mentioned above?
