The NHL then made a really weird move:
To react and respond to this controversy, the NHL issued an official statement:
A penalty for too many men on the ice can be issued by the four officials and linesmen on the ice.
After the game, Hockey Operations met with the four game officials as per protocol. On the subject of the winning goal, all four officials stated that they had never seen a man-on-ice situation on the game.
This game is not subject to video replay, neither by Hockey Operations nor by the officials on the ice.
