It was the New Jersey Devils' first game last night as they hosted the Chicago Blackhawks. It was also the first official NHL game for former QMJHL player Dawson Mercer.
The Chicoutimi Saguenéens player took the opportunity to emulate Hendrix Lapierre by scoring his first NHL point in his very first game. Mercer directed a great shot on the net from Kevin Lankinen and teammate Andreas Johnsson took advantage of the opportunity to push the rebound behind the Hawks' goalie.
For the occasion, the Devils escaped with the win by a score of 4-3 in overtime. Jack Hughes led the Devils' attack with two goals, the most important one coming in overtime.
This is not the start of the season Chicago had hoped for, losing their first two games. They will have the chance to get back on track tonight at 7pm against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
