Following the huge success of the 2022 National Hockey League draft, which was quite an event and was held in Montreal (at the Bell Centre), many journalists reported that the NHL was seriously considering the possibility of bringing the draft back to Montreal for the 2023 session.
Basically, the goal was possibly even to make it a tradition and to choose fixed locations for some big events. Among those locations would be (for example):
- The draft still in Montreal
- The Combine always in Buffalo
- The All-Star Game always in Las Vegas.
On the other hand, these remain long-term projects and all indications are that the NHL will not be moving forward with this (at least as far as the 2023 draft is concerned)
As Marco Normandin reports, the very reliable Greg Wyshynski (ESPN) just posted this:
"NEWS: Nashville remains the favorite to host the 2023 NHL Draft, but hotel availability is proving to be a challenge. Obviously, this is a preferred destination for teams, but it's not settled yet."
So the NHL is reportedly currently working to hold the draft in Nashville. This will be an issue to watch.
Would you like to see the draft come back to Montreal more often? Do you think it would be a good move for the Bettman circuit?
Remember that in the 2023 draft, a generational talent will officially arrive in the Big League (Connor Bedard).
